What is OpenKM?
OpenKM is focused on creating a open source electronic document management system, that due to its characteristics can be used by great companies as well as by the small ones, as a useful tool in processing knowledge management, providing a more flexible and cost effective alternative to other proprietary applications.

The use of the knowledge management systems in a company helps to manage, more efficiently, the intelligence of the available resources of this company; this redounds to an increase of productivity, in the medium term. Through these systems the information, as well as the knowledge generated within the organization, can be both globally accessed.

Why use a Document Management System?
Enterprises get a lot of documents, images and other information in electronic formats. One of the great time consumers of an organization is end user information location.

On the enterprise intranet, users store documents in folders on their hard disk. Nobody knows the information stored in all the enterprise and which information is needed.

How can a Document Management System help?
The Document Managment System application enables users to capture, publish, find and store electronic documents. One of the keys is the use of metadata information on documents such as: keywords, title, author, language, etc. Other essential functionality for organization is to structure the information ( taxonomy ).
